Lewis Henry Hubler

November 18, 1921 ~ October 11, 2016 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Lewis H. Hubler, 94, of Troy, PA, passed away peacefully at Arnot Ogden Medical Center on Oct. 11, 2016 in Elmira, NY. 

 

He was born in Kulpmont, PA, on Nov. 18, 1921, the son of Lewis C. Hubler and Mary Shaloka Hubler.  Lewis was a graduate of Hegins Township High School. 

 

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on Sept. 11, 1942, and served overseas during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Area with the Special Weapons Group, Seventh Defense Battalion.  He reenlisted for another four years during the Korean War.  He was a proud Marine and a member of the Troy American Legion, Post 49. 

 

After WWII, he attended East Stroudsburg University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Education.  He obtained his Master's Degree in Education from Penn State University and continued work in a doctoral program there. 

 

He taught American history and physical education in various school districts and was a baseball and basketball coach, coaching several championship teams.  After teaching for several years, he pursued an interest in school administration and became a Superintendent of Schools, working for several districts, including Troy Area Schools.  He retired as Superintendent of Leechburg Area School District in 1978-79.  After retirement he served on the Troy Area School Board for a number of years.  His primary focus was always on education and instilling a love of learning in children. 

 

Lewis was devoted to his family, spending a great deal of time with his children and grandchildren, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Troy, PA. He had several hobbies, including antique collecting and restoration, reading, fishing, and hunting.  He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He will be sadly missed by his family. 

 

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Theresa Siminitus Hubler, whom he met at Fort Indiantown Gap, as well as his children Louise Johns (Keith Johns), Carla Danovsky (Randy Weiss), Coleen Hubler, and Chris Hubler; grandchildren John Danovsky and Lori Hubler; great grandchildren Kaiya Danovsky and McKenna Hubler; sister Peggy Wolfgang; brother-in-law Russ Boeshore; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

 

He was predeceased by his parents, sister Marie Boeshore, brother-in-law Thomas Wolfgang, and granddaughter Lori Johns. 

 

The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at Morse and Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center St, Canton, PA.  Lewis will be interred at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Oct. 17, 2016. A memorial service open to the public will be held at the First Baptist Church in Troy, PA, on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, at 1:00 PM.
