GARY M. “BUBBA” BARNES

On the morning of Thursday, May 11th, 2017,   Gary M. Barnes of Canton passed away quietly at his residence following his courageous battle with a prolonged illness.  He was 63 years of age.  Born in Blossburg on October 15th, 1953, he was the son of the late Elwin R. Barnes, Sr,. and Audrey Leonard Barnes (Jennelle).  Known to family and friends as “Bubba”, he was a self-employed handyman and was well known in the Canton community.  He enjoyed hunting, camping at County Bridge Park, Country Music, NASCAR and playing BINGO. Bubba was also known as being a very talented sketch artist.   But with all of his recreational pursuits his favorite activity was mowing lawns.   A familiar figure in his ever-present cowboy hat, he’d rather be out working with his beloved tractor mower than be doing anything else.  Bubba was one of those special people who could light up a room with his smile.  His friendly handshake and honest  straightforwardness endeared him to all who knew him.  Though he never married he had all of the devoted family members that any man could want. He especially loved his nieces and nephews very much, and they in turn loved him equally as much.  He also knew and loved his Lord, who, on that Thursday morning, took Bubba by the hand  and led him home.

Bubba is survived by his mother, Audrey Jennelle of Towanda, sisters Anna Watkins, Robin (& Jeff) Campbell, and Linda Perry, all of Canton, Jennifer (& Raymond “Skeeter”) Cole of Ralston and Waneta Winder of Williamsport, brother Elwin Jr. (& Tami) Barnes of Canton special friends Tony Liberati, Fred Richter Sr., Fred Richter Jr., and Ted Bown, as well as numerous nieces & great-nieces, nephews & great-nephews and cousins.  The family also wishes to thank Cathy Clark Seelye, Karen Milazzo and Heather Rose Baillie for the wonderful, loving care they gave Gary, enabling him to be at home surrounded by those who loved him.   He was preceded in death by his father, Elwin R. Barnes, Sr.,  brother Allen Leonard and stepfather Floyd Colin Jennelle.

Visitation will be 11AM until noon, Saturday, May 20th at the Church of Christ (Disciples) in Canton.  A celebration of his life will follow at noon with Pastor Nancy Beahm officiating.  Interment will follow in Beech Flats Cemetery.
