CHARLES A. PALMER

On the morning of Tuesday, April 7th, 2015, Charles A. Palmer of LeRoy passed away quietly at his residence following a long illness.  He was 87 years of age.   Born in Canton March 2nd, 1928, he was the son of Paul and Edith (Brooks) Palmer.  Following high school Charles enlisted in the U. S. Navy, serving in the Pacific theater of operations during the Second World War.   After returning home he was introduced to Ellen  Mosiman on a blind date, and on July 5th, 1947 they were married.  Together they raised two sons and two daughters, and shared almost 68 years together.

Over the years Charles had been employed at Westinghouse in Horseheads, and at Sylvania in Towanda, but his true life’s vocation was his dairy farm  where he raised his family .   He had been active in the Open Hand Grange as well as being a 4-H leader, where he helped to instill into the young members of his group a love and respect for the land and all living things in general.  He further served his community as a member of the school board and as LeRoy Township’s Fire Warden.   Most importantly he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who placed his family’s well-being at the top of his priorities list.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen, at home, sons Richard Paul (& Elaine) Palmer of Naples, FL.,  L. Neal Palmer of LeRoy Township, daughters Linda Susan (& John) Swayze of Towanda, Penny Jean (& Steve) Wheeler of LeRoy Township,  brother Dean (& Delores) Palmer of Cogan Station, sister Virginia Morse of Canton,  10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Charles’ life will take place   1 o’ clock p.m. Saturday, April 11th                                                            at the East Canton United Methodist Church  with Pastor Diane Bentley officiating.   Visitation will be from noon until 1 PM at the church.
