On the afternoon of Sunday, December 10, 2023, well-known Canton resident Wilson Knecht, Jr., passed away peacefully at Bradford Hills in West Burlington. He was 89 years of age. Born on Parson's Hill June 26, 1934, he was the son of Wilson Knecht, Sr. and Goldie (Graham) Knecht. At the age of eighteen he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving our country during the Korean conflict, and after that he enlisted in the Naval Reserves and Coast Guard Auxiliary for several years. In civilian life Mr. Knecht was employed at the former Schrader
r-Bellows company and later Parker-Hannifin in Canton, retiring after more than thirty years. He was married to Helen Laudiero and together they raised a son and daughter and made Canton their home for more than sixty years.
Wilson enjoyed telling stories about his childhood memories of life on Parson's Hill. He was a hard working man who loved his family. Whenever a helping hand was needed he was one of the first to volunteer. He was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Wilson's surviving family members are as follows: sister Maryall (&John) Mesko, daughter Susan (& Stanley) Strong, grandchildren John (& Margaret) Knecht and Aaron Lineberry (& Holly Champluvier), great-grandchildren Wilson Knecht, Emily Knecht, Aaron Lineberry, Thomas Lineberry and Jacob Lineberry.
