EVA H. SMITH
Early on the morning of Friday, July 6th, 2018, Eva (Hower) Smith of Canton passed away quietly at Bradford County Manor. She was 79 years of age. Born November 26th, 1938 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Henry and Eva (Dicel) Hower. She was the wife of the late William Lee Smith, and resided in the city’s Frankford neighborhood prior to moving to Canton in 1998. Eva loved the beauty of Bradford County and the small town camaraderie of Canton. She was a real “people person,” and had no trouble making friends in her new community. The Smiths resided at McCallum Manor for the next 18 years, where she participated in the various activities. She enjoyed doing the puzzles, crocheting and needlepoint until her health issues began to affect the dexterity of her fingers. She was also known for her baking expertise, and she enjoyed hanging out at Canton’s annual Block Dance each summer. For many years she was active with Canton Chapter #981 Women Of The Moose. With the passing of her husband in 2014, Eva made the decision to move to Bradford County Manor. There she involved herself in the various activities, such as sing alongs and bingo.
Eva is survived by daughters Margaret Haegele of Roaring Branch and Linda De Robio of Philadelphia, sons Richard Lee (& Caren) Smith of Philadelphia and Michael William Smith of San Diego, Ca., three brothers, three sisters and numerous grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, William Lee Smith, daughter Mabel G. Rodden, brothers Lanson and Roger and sisters Mariam and Mabel. In keeping with Eva’s wishes, there are no formal services. Interment will be in Beech Flats Cemetery.
