HARRY R. CRAWFORD
During the early morning of Friday, November 8th, 2019, Canton Township resident Harry Richard Crawford passed away peacefully at Troy Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 76 years of age. Born February 8th, 1943 in Troy Township he was the son of Lyle D. and Elsie (Jackson) Crawford. Harry was raised in the Troy-Alba school district and served our country with the U. S. Army in Munich, West Germany, between 1960 and 1962. In later years he would often recall the tensions that arose between the U. S. and the U. S. S.R., and how his unit was on high alert as the infamous Berlin Wall was erected.
Following his return to civilian life Harry was employed by Canton Manufacturing, where he rose to the position of supervisor. He met and married the former Bonnie Robert, and together they raised two sons and a daughter and shared 53 years until Bonnie's passing just five weeks ago. Harry was well known for his quick, and often sarcastic wit. Affectionately known to his friends as “Nasty,” he was a master at good-natured “ribbing.” What's more, he was straight forward and to the point, and you always knew where you stood with him. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and travel. He was active among Canton's military veteran community, having served as Commander of Canton VFW Post #714, as well as being active with the Canton American Legion Post #303 and the Deer Crossing Marine Corps League. He was also a member of the Red Run Rod & Gun Club and a life member of Canton Chapter #429 Loyal Order of Moose.. Most importantly he was close to his family and friends.
Harry is survived by his daughter Teresa Crawford (& Brad Wilcox) of Canton, sons Michael (& Katrina) Crawford of Southport, NC, and David L (& Kathi) Crawford of Alba, brothers James Crawford of New Albany, Pa., Donald (& Sheri) Crawford of Pine City, NY, and Larry Crawford (& Charlene Coyle) of Lititz, Pa., mother-in-law and father-in-law Clayton & Geraldine Crout, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle & Elsie Crawford, sisters Jean Dildine and Althea Parsons, brother Dean Crawford, his best friend Terry Holdren and his beloved wife, Bonnie.
A graveside service will take place at Grover Cemetery 2 P.M. Saturday, November 16th where military honors will be accorded by VFW Post #714. (morseandkleesefuneralhome.com)
