EVELYN K. MATSON
On the afternoon of Monday, November 12th, 2018, Evelyn (Kilmer) Matson of Canton peacefully went home to be with Jesus, surrounded by her family while at Bradford County Manor. She was 97 years of age. Born July 27th, 1921 in Ellenton, Pa., she was the daughter of Emery and Jennie (Avery) Kilmer. Evelyn had been employed as a bank teller with the former First National Bank of Canton from 1942 until 1980. She met her husband, John Matson, on a blind date and on February 11th, 1942 they were married. Together they raised a son and a daughter. Evelyn and John enjoyed square dancing and were active with the Grand Paraders. They also enjoyed camping and wintering in Florida for over 20 years, and shared 57 years until John’s passing on May 8th, 1999. Evelyn was a longtime member of the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Canton where she was a member of the Crusader’s Class. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and playing cards, and most of all entertaining her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, John Matson and special friend Nancy Schoonover of Canton, daughter Barbara Ann Matson of New Mexico, grandchildren Michelle (& Rick) Clonch of Monroeton, Michael (& Tiffany) Matson of Boiling Springs, SC, John A. (& Bobbie) Matson and Melanie (& Jennings) Bird all of Waxhaw, NC, great-grandchildren, Lindsey Wesneski, Bryce Bird, Caitlin Bird, Emily Bird and Evan Bird, Kamber Matson, Johnny Matson Bailey Matson and Brandon Burnette, sisters Bertha Albrecht of Clyde, NY and Elsie Marsh of Marsh Hill, Pa., Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charlie & Linda Thomas of Ridley Park, Pa., sister-in-law Irene Matson of Alba, and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her sister Beulah Short and brother Edward Kilmer.
Calling hours will be Saturday from11 AM to 1 PM at the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Canton, followed by a celebration of Evelyn’s life at 1 o’clock PM. Interment will be in Grover Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers and suggests that memorial contributions be directed to the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) 170 N.
