Edna Tomlinson Obituary

EDNA C. TOMLINSON

On the morning of Wednesday, April 4th, 2018, Edna C. (Smith) Tomlinson passed away quietly at Twin Oaks Personal care Home.  She was 94 years of age.  Born in LeRoy Township, Bradford County August 24th, 1923, she was the daughter of George M. and Claribel (Bellows) Smith.  She married her childhood sweetheart, James A Tomlinson, and together they raised a son and a daughter, worked the family dairy farm and shared sixty-five years until Jim’s passing in 2009.  Edna was the consummate farm wife, tending to the various chores.  She also was a self-taught seamstress and furniture upholsterer.  She also worked as a home health care aid.  Edna and Jim also opened their home, as well as their hearts, to the care of foster children.  In later years she would open her home to visiting hunters from down state, sharing her cooking expertise and her homespun country hospitality.  Edna was involved in several area organizations, such as the LeRoy White Dove Rebekahs, the LeRoy Community Association, The LeRoy Heritage Museum and the former Open Hand Grange.  She was always volunteering for one committee or another.  For more than twenty years Edna and Jim wintered at Ft. Mead, FL, where she enjoyed shuffleboard, Bingo, playing cards and the fellowship of other Canton and LeRoy area “snow birds.”   Although she never learned to read music Edna was a proficient pianist, serving five years as musician for  her place of worship, the LeRoy Independent Baptist Church.  Edna’s life was centered around her love for her family  and her  unshakable love and  faith in the Lord.

She is survived by her son Theodore (& Karen) Tomlinson  of  LeRoy, daughter Marsha (& William) Krause of Canton,  sisters Phyllis Diefenbach of Monroeton and Harriet (& Richard) Buck of Astor, FL., grandchildren Trisha Krause (& Sanjay Bhagchandani), Danielle Krause (& fiancé Froi Pinili)  Kelly Tomlinson and Robert Tomlinson,  great-grandchildren Anya Bhagchandani, Sophie Liddy, Dylan Tomlinson and Tabitha Tomlinson, nephew David and niece Sharon, foster children Paul Inman , Deb Cooper and many others, special friends Nora Trone and Cinda & Al Morrison, Cheryl Dyar and niece Sherry Donovan, and the many caregivers who tended to her.  She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Claribel Smith, husband James A. Tomlinson and brother Edward Smith.  The family also wishes to express its appreciation and gratitude to Twin Oaks for the kindness and care given to Edna during her residence.

Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M., Saturday, April 7th at the Canton Ecumenical Parish, 103 N. Center Street, Canton.  A celebration of Edna’s life will follow at 11:30 with Pastors Jerry Schmidt and Kathy Miller officiating.  Interment will follow in LeRoy Cemetery.   Memorial contributions may be directed to the LeRoy Heritage Museum, 8051 South Side Road, Canton, Pa., 17724, or to the LeRoy Community Association, 10006 Rt 414, Canton Pa., 17724
