SHIRLEY M. CAMPBELL
On the morning of Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015, Shirley May (Buckley) Campbell of Granville Summit passed away quietly at her home. She was 80 years of age. Born in Towanda on June 16th, 1935, she was the daughter of James & Elsie (Lee) Buckley. Shirley grew up in New Albany, attending the New Albany schools. She was married 47 years to Gordon Campbell, with whom she raised four sons and three daughters. In the early 1960’s the Campbells purchased a farm in Granville township which would be Shirley’s home for the next fifty-two years. Gordon passed away in 1996. Shirley loved to work in her garden, and afterwards watch from her window as the birds darted among the blossoms. She also enjoyed hunting, playing cards and country music. She had a generous heart and was a perpetual caregiver. Over the years she worked at Bradford County Manor, the former Maple Lane Boarding Home in East Smithfield and the original Sherwood Personal Care Home in LeRoy. She cared for foster children, as well as family members who were in need. Shirley had operated a used clothing store in Canton for several years, often giving away clothing to families who had been burned out of their homes, a practice which she continued even after closing her shop. Her kindness touched the lives of many people in our area.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Fred Campbell (& Margie L. Searles) of Alpine, NY, Earl (& Bettina) Campbell of Mountain Lake, Robert E. Campbell (& Michael DeWalt) of Allenwood, Gordy (& Rose) Campbell of Troy, daughters Galva (& Chuck) Losey of Troy, Sharon Groover of Granville Summit, Theresa (& Robert) Benjamin of LeRoy, brothers William Buckley of Granville Summit and Robert Buckley of Wyalusing, sisters Annabelle Shedden of Owego, NY, Betty Swisher of Clearwater, FL., as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elsie, her husband, Gordon Campbell, Sr., and brother James Buckley, Jr.
In accordance with Shirley’s wishes there are no calling hours, and there will be no public services. Interment will be in East Canton Cemetery. (morseandkleesefuneralhome.com)
