On the evening of Saturday, July 18th, 2015, Marsden Leon Matson of Canton passed away quietly at Robert Packer Hospital with his family at his side. He was 76 years of age. Born in Endicott, NY on February 28th, 1939, he was the son of Wesley D. and Phyllis “Posie” (June) Matson. Following high school Marsden enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In 1961 he married Donna Mott, and together they raised four children and would have celebrated 54 years this September.
Throughout his adult life Marsden worked at many tasks. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the construction industry, was a truck owner-operator, owned Matson-Maris Garage and Auto Sales in Canton, was the manager-operator of the Antrim Mining Company, and was a truck driver for local businesses, most recently being employed with BS Trucking in Canton. He also served as an officer with the Canton Jaycees. He enjoyed fishing and spending special times with his children and grandchildren, as well as with his canine companion, Ruby, the company of his friends and his very best friend, his wife. He was also a man with a deep, abiding faith in the Lord, and was a member of the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Canton.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, at home, son Darin (& Kathryn) Matson of Franklin, TN, daughters Renee (& Anthony) Caringi of Glenside, Pa., Colleen (& Dwight) Forrester of Harrisburg, and Stephanie (& John) Erlston of Danville, Pa., sister Shirley (& Gary) Ritz of Troy, sister-in-law Issy Matson of Alba, grandchildren Jill (& Jerome) Schram, Matthew May, Kaylie Matson, Anthony Caringi, Grant Matson, Mackenzie Forrester, Alex Caringi, Kendra Case, Madeline Caringi, Tayler Forrester, Jakob Forrester, great-grandchildren Jacek and Niko Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and “Posie”, as well as his brother James Matson.
Visitation will be 10 to 11:30 AM, Saturday, July 25th, at Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center St., Canton. Service will be at 11: 30 AM with Pastor Josh Payne officiating. Interment will follow in the Mott Cemetery.
