MARIE A. TAYLOR

   On the morning of Monday, August 14th, 2017,   Marie Alice (Thomas) Taylor, formerly of Canton, passed away quietly at Bradford County Manor where she had resided since March of 2016.  She was 92 years of age.  Born December 16th, 1924 in Canton, she was the daughter of Thomas Merton  Thomas and Margaret (Schanbacher) Thomas.   A graduate of Canton High School, class of 1942, she also graduated from the Elmira Business Institute.  Following graduation Marie worked  in the personnel office of the Army Ordinance and Norden Bomb Site in Elmira. She returned to Canton in 1945 and was employed as a bookkeeper at the First National Bank until 1947.  She was married to Floyd D. Taylor, Jr. on June 28th, 1947.  Floyd’s career required their living in many different places over the years, including Orchard Park, East Aurora, Vestal, NY, and Ridgefield, CT.,  eventually returning to Canton.  Marie enjoyed working in her flower garden and being with family and friends.  She had a great love for dogs and cats and had several as companions over the years.  She was a life member of the Wheel Inn Club, a former member of the Canton Literary Club and Friends of the Green Free Library. Marie was a lifelong Methodist, and since 1982 was a member of the Ward United Methodist Church.  She is survived by her daughter, Alice T. Kinnear of Aiken, S.C. , one niece, Cynthia Taylor, and one nephew, James Hollis ( & Linda) Taylor.  Preceding her in death was her husband of 64 years, Floyd, as well as her sister and brother-in-law, LaRene and Donald Ayres.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
