JOHN H. “JACK” BEDFORD

 

       During the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 24th, 2017, well-known Canton area resident John Henry “Jack” Bedford passed away at the Skilled Nursing Unit at Memorial Hospital in Towanda.  He was 82 years of age.  Born April 25th, 1934 in canton, he was the son of Charles and Hazel (Rogers) Bedford.   Jack was a graduate of Canton Area High School and served with the occupation forces in Germany in the 1950’s.  When he returned to Bradford County Jack pursued dairy farming.  He was the consummate outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and all of the aspects of nature.  He enjoyed softball and bowling as well.  In addition to tending his cattle Jack was a salesman for LAMCO wagons and farm equipment.  He also served for many years as a school bus driver for the Canton Area School District.  In more recent years he served as a taxi driver for the local Amish community.  Jack was the type of person who made friends immediately with everyone he met, and they, in turn, were drawn to his warm smile and upbeat personality.  He will also be remembered by his family as having been a good and loving father.

   Jack is survived by his son Jeff (& Sheri) Bedford of Reynoldsville, OH, daughter BeaAnn Bedford of Canal Winchester, OH,  sister Joey Herman of Canton, grandchildren Heidi Bedford and  Rothen (& Lamarue) Bedford, and his special family Gerrie & Brian Barrett of Canton, Wendy Rosson of Crimora, VA, Jamie & John McDorman of Harrisonburg, VA,  Michael & Holly Shultz of Canton, Christopher & Kristin Leitner  of Troy, Matthew Barrett, Callie McDorman, Colton McDorman, Mason Shultz, Haliegh Shultz and Holden Leitner.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Hazel Bedford, sister Erdean Brown, brother Dean Bedford, daughter Darla Bedford, niece Barbara Brown and brother-in-law Frank Herman. 

  Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Thursday, Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center Street, Canton, resuming Friday from 1 to 2 PM at the North Street Church, where a celebration of Jack’s life will follow at 2 PM.  (morseandkleesefuneralhome.com)
