Jane F. (Ferris) Mullen

Jane Ferris Mullen, 82, formerly of Canton, died on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the Bradford County Manor, West Burlington, PA. She was born on April 22, 1932, in Mt. Kisco, NY, to Herbert and Margaret Ferris.

Jane grew up in Mt. Kisco and Bedford Hills, NY. She began working as a Nurses Aid in the Mt. Kisco Hospital when she was 16-years-old. It was there where she met the “handsome patient who would later became her husband of almost 62 years.” When Jane turned 18 she moved to Hialeah, FL, with her mother and stepfather. She worked as a Nurses Aide at St. Francis Hospital on Allison Island off Miami Beach. After receiving a Christmas card from that handsome patient, Wilfred Sobey Mullen, a long distance relationship began. They were married on August 13, 1952, in Hialeah, FL, and Jane and her groom moved to a small farm on Armenia Mountain in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. They were eventually blessed with five wonderful children.

Jane worked at the Canton Jr Sr High School in the cafeteria for approximately 25 years. She enjoyed her job and being able to see her children and eventually some of her grandchildren while working. She retired in 1996.

In addition to her parents, Jane is predeceased by her husband, Wilfred; her daughter, Margaret Jane; and a great granddaughter, Evelyn Bliss Webster.

Jane is survived by her children, James (Tania) Mullen of Canton, Mable (John) Blair of Barbours, Timothy Mullen of State College, Susie (Daryl) Krotzer of Liberty, Mary (Curtis) Hamilton of Manheim; 11 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Jane is also survived by her brother, Herbert (Stella) Ferris, and many nieces and nephews, as well as, the nurses and staff of the Bradford County Manor whose compassion and tender loving care over the past many years have made them part of her extended family forever.

A Memorial Service will be planned and held by her children at a later date.
