Welcome to the memorial page for

James "Edgie" Edward Wesneski

September 10, 1945 ~ March 26, 2015 (age 69) 69 Years Old

JAMES E. “EDGIE” WESNESKI

On Thursday, March 26th, 2015,  James Edward Wesneski of Troy passed away quietly at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy illness.  He was 69 years of age.   Known to family and friends as “Edgie,”  he was born in Blossburg  September 10th, 1945, and was the son of Charles and Helen (Page) Wesneski.  He was raised in Gleason (Union Twp.), and attended Canton Area High School.  One night while attending Messner’s barn dance in Liberty he was introduced by a mutual friend to Sharon Day, herself a student at Canton High.  They had passed in the hallway at school many times, never regarding one another.  But this night they saw each other in a different light, and before long a romance blossomed.  Edgie and Sharon were married July 23rd, 1966.  Together they shared almost 49 years.

Edgie was a man well acquainted with hard work.  He had been employed as a foundry worker and coal miner.  But his real passion was construction, especially bridges.  In fact, examples of his craftsmanship can be seen all along the I-180 beltway.  He was gifted as a natural born mechanic and refurbisher of furniture as well.    He was also quite meticulous and orderly, and avidly kept his vehicles and equipment   immaculately clean.  He was always happiest when he was busy, and remained active until multiple health issues curtailed his activities.

Edgie was a most congenial man with a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a hand.  But he was a man without pretense who called things as he saw them.  You always knew, in no uncertain terms, where you stood with him.  The most important facets of his life revolved around his loving wife and family, and they were at his side as he departed this life.

Edgie is survived by his wife, Sharon, at home, son James E. Wesneski, jr.(& Tiffanie) of Canton, daughters Brenda (& Randy) Sokoly of Bloosburg, Norma (& Stephen) Mattocks of Alba, stepdaughter Connie (& Skip) Rogers of Roaring Branch, sisters Frances Wilson of Williamsport, Jane Ogden of Blossburg, Louise (& Dan) Woodward of Troy, Shirley Allen of Canton, 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and special nephew Bobby Wesneski.  He was preceded in death by son Daryl Wesneski , brothers Robert, Bill and Harold “Tiny” Wesneski, and sister Mary Lou Dunbar.

Calling hours will be 10 o’clock until noon, Monday,  March 30th, at Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center St., Canton, Pa.  Service will follow at noon with Pastor Tom Blackall officiating.   Interment will be in the Alba Cemetery.
