JAMES V. SHERWOOD

    On the morning of Tuesday, September29th, 2015  James Victor Sherwood of canton passed away unexpectedly at Robert Packer Hospital.  He was 66 years of age.  Born February 26^th, 1949 in St. Mary’s Pa., he was the son of Victor and Alice (Chadwick) Sherwood.   Jim spent his earliest years in Emporium until age 5 when his family relocated to LeRoy.  The Sherwoods established a home for the elderly which served the Bradford County area for many years.  The family became active in the former LeRoy Church of Christ.  Jim served six years with the U.S. Army Reserves, and was married to the former Karen Yaggie.   Jim  and Karen owned and operated the Sherwood Traditional Archery Shop, selling hunting bows that were hand made by Jim, as well as other supplies.  He was a skilled craftsman who also manufactured leather goods, and for many years he and his wife would attend the various Pioneer Rendezvous and sell their wares.   During those years Jim often thought about his family’s association with caring for the elderly and how rewarding it felt to help others, so he and Karen established the Sherwood Retirement and Personal Care Home in Canton Township.  Jim remained administrator until health issues caused him to curtail his day-to-day involvement. 

Warm, friendly and soft-spoken, Jim was a loving and caring man to both his family and his family of residents.  His relaxed, easy-going demeanor won the hearts of those in his care.

     Jim is survived by his wife, Karen, at home, daughters Brenda (& Michael) Spencer of Fairbanks, Alaska and Jennifer Sherwood (& Michael Shadduck) of Canton, sister Jeanne Butters of LeRoy, mother-in-law Lillian Yaggie of Canton,   brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kevin and Nancy Yaggie of Gillett, special friend Bob Cornell of Wellsburg, NY, granddaughters Megan, Melissa and Michaela Spencer, as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Alice Sherwood, father-in- law Kenneth Yaggie and brother-in-law Lamont Butters.
