DONNA S. ZIMMER

      On the morning of  Thursday, March 17^th, 2016, Donna Marie (Simpson) Zimmer of Canton passed away quietly at Troy Community Hospital following a brief illness.  She was 78 years of age.  Born September 16^th, 1937 in Canton, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Edna (Palmer) Simpson.  Following her graduation from Canton High School Donna pursued a career as a teacher, earning her master’s degree at Mansfield University.  During her three decade career she taught first in the Canton Area School District where she also tended to the school library.  Later she taught in the South Williamsport School district, retiring in 1997.  She was married to David Zimmer, with whom she raised two sons and would have celebrated 56 years of marriage in June of this year. 

        Donna worked actively with the Canton High School Alumni Association.  She enjoyed working in her flower garden and doing jigsaw puzzles.  She was a great lover of cats and was devoted to her family and friends.  Today she rests from her labors in the arms of her Lord.

  Surviving are her husband, David, at home, sons Daren (& Amy) Zimmer of Canton and Daniel (& Kim) Zimmer of Alexandria, Va., sisters Janice Rickard of Canton and Marilyn (& Michael) Ervin of Florida, grandchildren Dustin (& Lannie) Zimmer, Kristen (& Kurtis) Page, Courtney (& Keith) Eck and Dylan Zimmer, as well as four great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Edna Simpson and brother-in-law, George Rickard.

   Calling hours will be Saturday, March 19^th from 2 to 4 PM at Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center Street, Canton.  Service will follow at 4 o’clock.  The family will provide the flowers, and suggests that contributions in Donna’s memory be directed to the Animal Care Sanctuary, PO Box “A”, East Smithfield, Pa., 18817,   (morseandkleesefuneralhome.com)
