DAVID B. MATTHEWS, III

      On Saturday, June 4^th, 2016, David Byron Matthews, III of Shamokin passed away quietly at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville following a courageous battle with leukemia.  He was 63 years of age.   Born April 30^th, 1953 in Waverly, NY, he was the son of David B. Matthews jr. and the late Shirley (Buck) Matthews.  Dave was tall in stature and great in strength, a man used to strenuous labor and sometimes a 90 hour work week.  He had been employed at Hawbaker’s in Williamsport until his health would no longer permit it.  These past few years Dave fought his illness bravely with his beloved family at his side, but in the end he let go and the Lord took his hand.

   Dave is survived by his wife, Mylea, at home, father David B. Matthews, jr., of Canton, daughters Stacey Matthews of Missouri, Nichole Dewitt (& Jim Steele) of Shamokin, Katelynn Dewitt (& Fiance  Lonnie Smith) of Canton, brother Barry (& Barb) Matthews of Canton, sisters Melinda Matthews (and partner Joanne) of Ithaca, NY, Carla (& Steve) Cain of Waverly, grandchildren Mackenzie Wakefield, Bentley Dewitt and Lonnie Smith, IV, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.   He was preceded in death by his brother, Bart Matthews and mother Shirley Matthews.

   Calling hours will be from 10 AM to Noon, Thursday, June 9^th, at Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center Street, Canton.  Service will be at Noon with Pastor Ron Bly officiating.   Interment will follow in East Canton Cemetery.(morseandkleesefuneralhome.com)
