JOHN P. “COCONUT” VANDERPOOL, SR.

 

     On the evening of Thursday, October 19th, 2017, John Paul Vanderpool of Towanda passed away unexpectedly at Towanda Memorial Hospital.  He was 56 years of age.   Known to his friends as “Coconut”, he was born August 4th, 1961 in Sayre, and was the son of Walter and Eliza (Johnson) Vanderpool.  For most of his working life John was a house painter, but his career was cut short by his illness.  However, John was never one to allow himself to be confined and controlled by his infirmities.  He lived his life to the fullest, experiencing and enjoying life’s pleasures every day.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He also enjoyed watching NFL games on TV, and was an avid Steelers fan, and watching his own grandsons playing football, as well as his granddaughter who is a cheerleader.  He was loyal to his community and was a devout follower of Black Knights football.   John was a devoted father and grandfather who strived to be independent despite his physical limitations, and was truly an inspiration to his family and friends.

  He is survived by his mother, Eliza Vanderpool Benjamin, son John P. (& Tina) Vanderpool, jr., daughters April (& Jason) Thetga, Melissa (& John) Lochner and Alicia Johnson,  all of Towanda,   brothers Walter Vanderpool of Towanda, Oliver (& Mary) Johnson of Standing Stone, sisters Maryellen Milesky of LeRaysville,  Carol (& Charles) Place, Gladys (&Fred) Ringler and Betty Jane Miller, all of Towanda, grandchildren Axle, Kopper, Jason, Zerik, Trinity, Dalton, Blake, Shay, Leon, Camden, David and one expected soon, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Vanderpool, sr. and his wife, Ella Vanderpool.

Calling hours will be Monday, the 23rd, noon to 1:30 PM at the Assembly of God Church,  20 Kingsbury Ave., Towanda.  Service will be at 1:30 PM with the Rev. Thomas Geiger officiating.  Interment will follow in Bradford County Memorial Park.  Contributions to the family would be greatly appreciated.   Professional services have been  entrusted to Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, Canton.
